Permalinks are how your site URL is structured. WordPress is using the following permalink
www.domain.com/?p=<post-id> by default.

We recommend creating a user-friendly URL. That means that your permalink should contain keywords, so it will be easier for the users to remember your URL. It will also improve your SEO rankings. The best possible solution is using your post name permalink structure. For example, it should look like this:

www.domain.com/most-common-wordpress-mistakes/

When you install your WordPress theme, just go to Settings/Permalinks and change it. Simple as that. See the picture below.

It’s recommended that you use 3-5 words in the slug, since it’s the most optimized WordPress SEO URL. Search engine algorithm defines 3-5 words in your URL as natural and gives you a big credit for it. If it’s longer, the algorithm starts to ignore it and gives you a lot less credit.

Furthermore, the permalink should start with a category and end with a post name.
